Bone Health Clinic

If you’re over 45 with a history of a recent fracture or have other risk factors for osteoporosis, our Bone Health Clinic is the first step to preserving and restoring bone strength.

With a thorough diagnostic process, our team approach is designed to minimize fracture risk by not only identifying metabolic bone disease but also developing a custom treatment plan.

What is Osteoporosis?

Osteoporosis is a disease in which the bony trabeculae, or mesh-like “soft bone” becomes weakened. When the internal strands of the bone lose their density, the bones become weak and can fracture easily. Known as the silent disease, most of us don’t know we have osteoporosis until we break a bone. Understanding the “why” behind a broken bone helps us not only treat the disease but stop the fragility fracture cycle in hopes of preventing subsequent or future fractures.

The statistics are discouraging. One in two women and up to one in four men over the age of 50 will break a bone due to osteoporosis. Common fractures include the spine, wrist, shoulder, and hip – a devastating break with often permanent implications. Other long-term effects of osteoporosis can include spinal curvature and loss of mobility. Brittle bones are not a natural part of aging, and you can indeed do something about it.

Our osteoporosis team are experts in the diagnosis and development of a customized treatment regimen to optimize your bone quality. You can expect a comprehensive bone assessment to identify any secondary causes contributing to weak bones aside from aging. Diagnostic testing may include a bone mineral density exam, DEXA imaging, blood work, and X-rays. From there, we’ll put together a plan to reduce fracture risk, quicken healing, and prevent later fractures.
